In Portland, the SJS Volunteer Missionary Program takes shape as the Mercy Mission — a year of service and evangelization focused on those living on the streets. rooted in the works of mercy.
Based at St. Michael the Archangel Church, SJS Volunteer Missionaries serve through consistent presence among those living on the streets while also participating in the programs of New Evangelization for young adults, college students, or high school students.

Core Mission: Mercy Mission
SJS Volunteer Missionaries primarily serve individuals experiencing homelessness through relational, presence-based ministry that upholds dignity and witnesses to the love of Christ.
In addition, missionaries also assist with:
- College campus ministry at Portland State University
- Young adult ministry
- High school ministry through the Cenaculo Program
These apostolates support the primary mission and allow missionaries to share in the broader evangelizing work of the Church.
